Sunprint Paper Kits For Solar Printing

The Sunprint Paper Kits combine art and science in a hands-on activity that sparks curiosity, creativity and experimentation. Using the power of sunlight, this photo-sensitive paper undergoes a chemical change when exposed to light, allowing children to create striking blue-and-white photographic-style prints.

Children simply place objects such as leaves, flowers, feathers, keys or photo negatives onto the paper, expose it to sunlight, then rinse it in water to permanently reveal detailed silhouettes. The process encourages observation, prediction and exploration, making it ideal for STEM learning, visual arts and cross-curricular activities.

Sunprint paper works with flat objects or, for a more experimental approach, 3D objects can be used without the acrylic pressing sheet. Suitable for ages 6+, this activity supports both guided classroom lessons and open-ended creative exploration.

How It Works

1. Forage for interesting objects such as leaves, flowers or feathers

2. Arrange objects on Sunprint paper out of direct sunlight

3. Place the acrylic pressing sheet over the top to hold items in place

4. Take the paper into direct sunlight for 2–5 minutes

5. Rinse in water for 1–5 minutes, watching the colours reverse

6. Lay flat on an absorbent surface and allow to dry

7. Admire your finished deep-blue Sunprint artwork
